Exhibit by Contemporary Ceramic Artist-- Dottie Low
October 7th - November 25, 2006
This exhibit in comprised of many pieces spanning the career of Dottie thus far. The show is divided into 3 sections- earth, fire and water. The "earth" is represented in her stoneware pieces. The clay used is more gritty and is very rough in texture. There is a variety of stoneware pots as well as stoneware pieces from Dottie's "wood" collection. The "fire" is represented in the many raku pieces that Dottie loves to make and to fire. Raku is a process where pieces are pulled directly from a hot kiln and oxidized quickly. The result is a bronze looking piece of ceramics. The "water" is represented in Dottie's porcelain pieces. She used the fine, refined look of the porcelain clay to make flowing pieces. Also, she takes advantage of the porcelain's delicate characteristics to handbuild a variety of objects such as purses and peapods. Dottie's unique style and presentation is evoked throughout the entire exhibit.
